GRANT News- In what some critics are calling the best ever performance in a mixed league fixture to begin at 6.24pm on a Thursday night, the 24s romped to an emphatic victory when they defeated their opponents, Nova Build, by a gargantuan 101 runs. Said Captain Rob, “we were so bloody kiff, boet, we like, we buried them under the soil.” Undertaking metaphors aside, it is possibly fair to interpret the erudite skipper as meaning that the 24s won rather comfortably. Not their most eloquent, but perhaps their most effective with willow in hand, Captain Rob helped the 24s to victory in a partnership with Ms Angela ‘We Have No Alias For Her Just Yet’ Cor which saw a posting of 40 runs. While scoring runs is naturally an integral part of the game, it was the bowling that sealed the win. Again, Captain Rob, “we were so bloody kiff, boet, we like we buried them under the soil”. In this remarkable show of originality, Captain Rob probably intended to say that his bowlers performed most admirably. In particular, he drew attention to the endeavours of Andre ‘I’m A Guy, I Swear!’ Coll, who with a high front arm and fantastic wrist position was able to claim no less than 6 Nova wickets for -11 runs something Grant "im so cool" Harri would be proud of. “Drey was so bloody kiff, boet,” mused Captain Rob with a far-off look, “he like, I reckon he buried them under the soil.”
At the end of the day, however, it was a team effort. As Captain Rob pointed out, “there’s no ‘I’ in team, you skim?” The fact that a ‘me’ could be arranged from the word ‘team’ didn’t seem to occur or matter to the learned and subtle 24s skipper, who in summing up the performance of his team, poignantly noted, “I think in the dark of the night it are because we were so bloody kiff, boet, that we like buried them under the soil.”
