red24 Spartans crush Scorpions in season opener
The red24 Spartans romped to a comprehensive 4-2 victory at the Stadium of Light yesterday in a first and most crucial win of the new Division 7 season. The hapless Scorpions, led by Mini-Cheddar Ahmed Hussein al-Ghamad, felt the full force of the Spartans heavy breathing and were left breathless thanks in no part to the pre-match garlic rolls devoured by some of the Spartan core. Leading the goal rout on the night was Spartan legend and finder of lost KFC burgers, Capn Rob, who slotted two second half scorchers to take his tally to three for the evening and claim the Nandos man of the match award. Spartans 4th of the night came courtesy of the incredibly sweaty Andre “now you C me now you don’t you got the ball, no you don’t!” and was unlucky not to take his tally to three after missing two penalty chances in each half. Other notable performances came from Gerrit “Wild Shots Bill” Wessels who dominated the little men-children in mid-field with robust body checks and ungainly fist swinging and Jonathan “Amakhooooooosi” Vincent whose one-two-shoot-a-roo is bound to become a catch phrase on this blog only. Grant “Aces Mabulele” Scheepers and Yosh “the enlightened prodigy of Pele” Sato played a constructive and finnessy innings deftly passing and jabbing neatly at the bar after the game. Asked about his performance on the night Grant was keen to express his delight in the “smallness of the opposition” who, quote, "...looked more like garden gnomes than real peoples", while Sato stated that “there ain’t nothing like a hound dog”. Clearly more needs to be done by this blog on obtaining quality quotes. red24 Spartans next fixture has not been released. More to come. Stay tuned and remember to "Deserve Victory" at all costs.
