Sambo and Nova: A confused match report by Nag

24s hopes dashed again as players face relegation abyss

Despite the much vaunted batting line up, the 24s were unable to take the bull by the horns and make their bowlers feel the heat. Sambos opening batsman managed to take control of the situation and the match after seizing the initiative early on.

Ken played a great innings with some crisp drives down the ground as he top scored with 30, while Nick and Grant helped with some elegant cover drives. Debutant John showed an athletic turn in the field and weighed in with a good contribution.

The match was never going to meander to a draw.

Nova Against Nova, after a strong start, the wonder woman Rawayda Playlikaman managed to snatch the momentum away with some powerful and lusty hitting as the ball sped to the boundary like a tracer bullet on a hot day in Iraq. As she tore apart the bowling attack like a frenzied berseker hamster in a rusty cage they realised that they could not stop him (you mean her – ed) they could only hope to contain him (um, your fired – ed).

Despite some fiery spells from Grant and Nick they were unable to tempt the batsman into an indiscretion and the match never really teetered on a knifes edge (it wasn’t even a nail biter for that matter).

Kens feet were stuck to the crease and after some needless runouts the team could not gain the required momentum.

Cath silenced the critics with solid displays in the face of impending doom. Rob giving a 110 percent and Sarah played for the team while Nick played a captains inning (mainly cos he was, well, the captain). Well done to all the players who never threw in the towel or even threw their toys.

At the end of the day though, it was, well, the end of the day. (…and cricket was the winner).
